The Odd Couple

The holidays are all about odd couples.  Maybe its your Mom's new boyfriend.  Or your sister's.  Or the way your parents act after thirty years of marriage.  Or the way the cat handles a new dog visitor.  Odd couples make things a little more fun.  Or at least, interesting!

Odd couples make your table more interesting, too.  This weekend we hosted a casual brunch for one of Peter's closest and oldest friends and his wonderful fiance.  I thought about setting the table with crystal and china, but Jack wasn't cooperating well enough for me to pull it together.  Instead, we used everyday ceramic plates and mismatching le creuset servingware and mugs.  As much as I adore my china teacups, saucers and cream & sugar servers, this set up worked great.  I used a vintage pineapple-cut crystal class with a silver Tiffany's demitasse spoon for sugar and a small fishes eddy .25 liter pitcher for milk.  40's glam meets farmhouse casual.  Like red lipstick & denim.
