Mornings at Maialino

On a recent Saturday we headed to Maialino with another couple to try out their gossiped-about brunch.  It lived up to the hype.  I made a reservation ten days in advance and was mostly told no, but we took advantage of my recent sleeplessness and met for a 10am brunch on a cloudy but comfortable day.  I ordered the Cacio e Pepe and Peter ordered the Fagioli.  When the food arrived, Peter and I switched plates, but we shared bites of each other's bounty.  Both meals were phenomenal.

The service was excellent, the cafe au lait was spot-on, and we didn't regret ordering a toffee glazed brioche bun off the sweets menu.  But the best part of any meal at Maialino is the chance to take a walk around Gramercy Park, especially at this time of year.  The park, though notoriously under lock and key, is in full bloom and lovely to look at even from the street.

Check out the Maialino brunch menu here, and be sure to call in advance for a reservation.
