Off the Shelf: Case Histories

It became immediately obvious earlier this summer at Book Hampton that Kate Atkinson is an author I should have already heard of.  Her new book, Life After Life, has been widely celebrated.  But this is a beach town and I needed a beach read and so hardcover just wouldn't do (it should be out in paper back by Christmas).

I chose an old Kate Atkinson favorite: Case Histories.  I highly recommend.  It's a mystery novel, but rarely do you find a mystery novel with SO many mysteries.  The entire first half introduces you to a web of seemingly unrelated characters, each of whom are connected to one tragic ending or another.  Of course, in the end, you'll learn just how the characters fit together.  The story is engrossing and you'll be sure to be finished by the end of a beach week.

Have you read a Kate Atkinson novel?  I'll most certainly be picking up a second.
