Weekend in Review

Baby, it's cold outside!  So getting dressed this weekend was all about staying cozy.  The last few months of the year are so busy that I've spent a lot of January catching up with friends I haven't seen in a while and dragging Peter through a "mine field" of engagements (his term).  Even with the excitment of seeing my favorite people, I found it difficult to get out the door last week because I couldn't seem to mentally prepare myself for the cold.  So I found plenty of opportunity to layer it up and to wear my favorite Rag & Bone booties, which conveniently accomodate outrageously warm ski socks.

Here's this weekend's weekend in review:

Friday Night
8pm performance at the New York City Ballet
Lincoln Center

Two of our favorite friends are Tiler Peck and Robbie Fairchild, both principal dancers in the New York City Ballet.  It's not that often that they dance together in the same performance so we were thrilled to be invited to Le baiser de la fée, in which they both danced the lead, and was a premiere of the role for Robbie.  Needless to say they were phenomenal (as was the rest of the program!)  We were able to sneak backstage for the last piece, Diamonds (part of the three-piece ballet choreographed by Balanchine called Jewels).  While we were backstage giggling and making entirely too much noise for the taste of the stage manager, we saw our friend Ralph, a member of the corps de ballet in his Diamonds costume.  That man in tights.  It's something you must see.  If you're planning on buying tickets to the ballet this season, Sleeping Beauty is a full-length ballet that will be running in February.  Try to snag tickets for when Tiler is in the lead!  Here is a link to the performance calendar: New York City Ballet Winter Calendar.

What I wore: J.Crew collection white high-waisted trousers, Barney's grey cashmere turtleneck sweater, Miu-Miu pumps.

Saturday Morning
11am breakfast at The Smile
26 Bond Street (at Lafayette St.)

My friend Daniel from lawschool is the most hilarious, sharp-witted human being you'll ever meet.  He is always impeccably dressed in a uniform of sorts: APC raw denim and various well-tailored layers all in shades of navy.  We have always been similarly minded and so we ordered exactly the same thing: baked eggs with avocado and a side of bacon, coffee & grapefruit juice.  Both of us just about died over the bacon.  Both of us thought that grapefruit juice & coffee was an awkward combination.  Local tip: 11am is the perfect time to head to The Smile (just before the brunch crowd arrives).

What I wore: J.Brand jeans, Peter's Bergdorf Goodman Men's professor sweater (it is 100% cashmere and the coziest thing in the great state of New York), Rag & Bone booties, wigwam socks.

Saturday Night
9:30pm dinner party at Freeman's
Freeman's Alley (Rivington & Christie)

It's always a treat to see Peter's best friends, which is a group that now includes a set of wives and girlfriends that I love.  We try to get everyone together once every couple of months.  Usually we'd host a dinner party at our apartment but the dishes were feeling particularly daunting what with our full schedule over the past few weeks.  So instead I reserved the Wine Room at Freeman's for our group of 12.  The dinner was cozy, delicious and hassle free.  I can't wait to plan more parties there.

What I wore: Current/Elliot jeans, J.Crew turtleneck, APC sweater, J.Crew necklace, Rag & Bone booties, Wigwam socks.

Sunday Morning
10am breakfast at Peels
325 Bowery

Peter is not a morning person but I'm an early bird, and so are my favorite neighborhood couple: Rachel & Charles.  On Sunday morning we had a cozy breakfast for three at Peels, one of our favorite neighborhood spots.  I get the same thing every time: extra toasted whole grain toast, scrambled eggs with cheddar, a side of avocado and a cafe au lait.  I'm sad to report that Rachel & Charles are leaving us for Chelsea in February but I've already been scoping out restaurants in their new neighborhood, so they'll have to do more than move to get rid of me.  Even at 10am on Sunday!

What I wore: Sometimes what a girl wore to a 10am breakfast after a late night is a secret among said girl and two of her best friends.  It may or may not have included an article of pajamas.

Stay warm, everyone!
